  See this image?  It's a sketch I did in 2012 on an iPad at the Upper West Side Apple Store using the app ProCreate.  I drew it on the fly.  It features Inanna, my favorite go to mythological character, considering an unseen subject out of frame with delight and interest.  You couldn't tell because the subject is off screen.  On the fly, folks.  I didn't think it out. Even so, customers and employees in the store would stop by, look at the sketch and say, "That's really good!"  This stroked my frail ego, for I create drawings and paintings as infrequently as Axl Rose releases a new Guns n' Roses album.  I was drawing the image with my finger, so essentially it was a finger painting.  A finger painting masqerading as a charcoal sketch. Dream: Vána, Goddess of Confections (A Tolkien Inspired Dream).

What began as a dream about the Incredible Hulk became a dream about a young goddess named Vána (a Tolkien Valier).   In this dream she is a goddess of plentiful food and confectionery. The dream begins with David Banner in the process of transforming into the Hulk.   At the same time, I am “editing” the story.   I decide Banner is changing too soon in the story.   He should be rescuing a damsel in distress while trying to avoid a gang of thugs.   Banner finds the damsel trapped in a bedroom on the top floor of a suburban house.   He frees her, but as they go down the steps, the thugs jump them.   They restrain Banner while they run off with the damsel, this triggers Banner’s transformation into the Hulk.   He thrashes the thugs restraining him and he chases down the fleeing car holding the damsel.   Banner pulls the damsel free from the car and carries her off. My First Rock Concert.

I believe that thirty four years ago today, I became a full fledged teenager when I went to my first rock concert. When I was a wee boy, I would see teenagers with shaggy hair parade around in school and on the street with T-shirts that were artifacts of live shows of bands they had seen:  Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Styx, Journey, Def Leppard, KISS, Rush, Emerson Lake and Palmer, Twisted Sister, and so forth. In my first year at middle school, I saw a girl who wore a denim vest displaying the Union Jack on the back with the words "THE WHO" printed along the St. George's Cross segment of the flag. I was curious about these wild shows they had gone to see.  It seemed out of my league.  Would a wimpy kid like myself ever have the experience of seeing a rock band play live?  Would I ever partake in this rite of passage into teenhood?
