  When you work in the complaint office of the police department, you become wise to the many methods of identity theft. Many complainants came in with stories of receiving phone calls from dodgy characters claiming to be the FBI.   These hucksters often say that they owe money to the government and if they don’t pay the outstanding amount by MoneyGram or another means of renumeration, they will be arrested. They often go after older people.   People who aren’t well versed in the most recent forms of telephone robocalls.   Younger folk fall for scams on the internet:   Surprise gifts of the latest entertainment console. Students coming into the big city who reach out for apartment space to rent through sketchy sites like Craigslist are often given tours of a building and shown an apartment - only to find out later that they were given the wrong keys.   Or they get a virtual tour of an apartment allegedly at a certain building with convenient subway and bus ...

What I Have Been Doing Instead of Writing.

  I've been working hard... at doing nothing. In the past few days, I have received a PlayStation controller in the mail, downloaded Sid Meier's Civilization VI , and purchased a crowdfunded comic book titled Doc Alpha:  Miracle Child.    So far, I have paired the controller with my computer.  I've browsed over the map of my city state in Civ VI in vain attempts to control trade and troop movements.  I haven't even read the first page of Doc Alpha . I've been following livestreams on YouTube about assorted pop culture detritus.  I'm rapidly losing interest in the content as they mostly bemoan the "death" of everything from Star Wars, Star Trek, and Doctor Who to Marvel and DC Comics.  Yes, I know.  The glory days have gone.  Thanks for the update.  Well, it's not your fault I'm watching your livestreams.  You haven't bolted me to my chair and pried my eyes open against my will.  I could just stop.   I've been wakin...

Hi, My Name Is John and I'm a YouTube Addict. (Hi, John).

I may have discussed this in a previous post, but this time I want to zero in on my addiction. It's not as serious as heroin or cocaine to be sure.  Nonetheless, it impinges on my ability to work on my scripts, take time to exercise, and to finish the most menial of tasks. I'm talking about social media.  Public enemy number meh. When I was working a normal nine to five,  I was fidgeting with my smart phone to check out any news on Facebook.  If I wanted to do something extraordinary, I would add a YouTube clip in the FB post to show how clever I was.  Sometimes I would go to a meme generator, find an image, add text, and post it either on FB, Twitter (hereafter known as Shitter) and Instagram.  Here are some examples: Ha, Ha. Ha ha ha. I thought I was a genius for putting together these bon mots.  It helped pass the time and break up the monotony at work. The problem was, when I got home I was still at it.
